Our wines in S. XXI
The Spanish wine industry is undergoing rapid changes in recent times, always follow market trends, new trends and, ultimately, tastes and consumer needs. At present, global trends in this market are moving towards quality wines. Increasingly, the consumer would prefer wines with very specific characteristics, and is interested in learning about the varieties, the alcohol content, color, the aromas, age, etc., wine, which then goes to savor along with the adequate food for these characteristics elected.
The current demand for quality wines, in turn implies a concern and widespread interest in everything connected with the industry, particularly in terms of designations of origin, precisely, through their Councils regulators, guarantee and certify the quality of their wines. The reform of European legislation scheduled for the beginning of the new millennium has, among others, the objective of strengthening competitiveness in the wine sector, to develop demand and adapt production to market needs. These are, therefore, common goals that arise Appellations of Origin in general.
Méntrida is a Denomination of Origin founded more than twenty years ago, though perhaps little known, probably due to a lack of vision on the part of commercial components and the general neglect that has been subjected to this area of North Toledo. Currently, both the Control Board as its partners (wine growers and processors) are conducting a work of modernization, maintenance and adaptation to market demand which is an important joint effort to improve the quality of our wines, promotion and a place on the market with the recognition they deserve. The new century presents us, therefore, with some guidelines to be followed quite clear: to bring all the designations of origin towards quality wines. Méntrida, for the moment, is already changing its great potential in wine varieties complementary received in the new regulation Regulatory Board (Cabernet, Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah for red; Chadornnay and Sauvignon Blanc for whites), the introduction of modern technologies at all levels and the concern and interest by all who work for it every day, make possible the reality of our motto: Méntrida, a new resurgence.
