Convent of San Juan de la Penitencia
|
| |
The former convent of the Franciscan nuns was founded by Cardinal Cisneros and lifted by its architect, Peter Gumiel, combining elements of resonance with the Muslim renaissance. He suffered a devastating fire in 1936, which reduced to rubble, later serving as a refuge for the homeless after the Civil War.
The Gothic home, under a tejaroz, is decorated with thistle leaves and a tondo. Another door, with the arch downgraded Renaissance and crowned by the shield of its founder Cardinals gave entry to the College of Doncellas. In another road, since the building was constructed by joining several houses, there is a third home with the same shield and tejaroz.
This building is now home Conservatory of Music and the Center for International Studies at the Ortega y Gasset Foundation.
Virtually townhouse is the Church of Saints and Justo Pastor.
