Theatre of Rojas

At the site of the medieval market, where days of festivities were brought drama, Jorge Manuel Theotocopuli built corral a classic comedy in 1604, replaced between 1869 and 1878 by the current building was renovated in the late twentieth century.
Its author was Rodrigo Amador de los Rios, combining classical with the outside arcades half a point and front shield with the municipal entry high on a staircase, with interior decoration barroquizante alluding to the performing arts, stressing the roof over the courtyard armchairs and unique curtain.
The interior recalls French cinemas, as the Opera de Paris, saving the distances, within a bourgeois aesthetic of the period. Below the building is preserved machinery of wood, mounted on the floor of the original pen previous comedies, which allowed the stalls raise the level of scenery, creating a huge living room.The body's own theatre forms an L with the body of the inning, disguising the true size and shape.
The name is due to playwright Toledo Francisco Rojas Zorrilla, fourth centenary of whose birth is celebrated in 2007 (see the chapter devoted to literature). |
