Church of El salvador

The church is built on an ancient Muslim mosque, whose remains are viewable on tours. The horseshoe arches of Islamic period are based on original Roman columns reused and Visigoth. Along with the presbytery is a pilaster Visigoth with reliefs of Christ's life, but the figures show the faces erased in the Muslim era. The tower pétrea corresponds to the minaret of the mosque, with the body of bells, brick, added.
Outside some decorated with reliefs Visigoths reused. In the twelfth century was devoted to Christian worship, becoming the parish of El Salvador. At the end of the fifteenth century, the header was built in the chapel of St. Catherine annexed showcase of Gothic end. In this church was christened the future Queen Juana of Castile, mother of Emperor Charles V and it has just the adventures of Lazarillo de Tormes. |
