According to existing documents, its foundation is due to Visigoth king Athanagild back in the year 555. Almost nothing remains of that first structure that was hosting the largest number of worshippers during the Muslim domination. After an accidental fire in 1537 was completely rebuilt in Greco-Roman style, introducing a Latin cross with a wide nave with a polygonal apse, rostrum at the feet and side chapels. The roof is an excellent armor Mudejar style.
The only vestige of the temple must be the primitive pilaster Visigoth abroad, which rests on an arc of horseshoe-type Caliphate. The latest restorations discovered an inscription on its facade Arabic referring to the consecration of the temple. The cover is simple with the sizes of their bosses, classical style.
Since this temple sale prelude Easter the silent procession of the Virgen de la Soledad, starring exclusively by women bereaved. |
