Church of Santiago del Arrabal

facade

This church is considered one of the best examples of Mudejar art in Toledo, with its walls of brick masonry with executioners, the entrances framed in horseshoe arches within arches and the tower polilobulados exempt, whose first body is definitely above the rest Since the thirteenth century.

The double arches of brick lining the three apses are half a point, and pointed polilobulados. En el interior, en el muro norte del crucero se observan pequeños recuadros sobre los rosetones con la Mano de Fátima. In the interior, in the north wall of the cruise there are small boxes on the rosettes with the Hand of Fatima. The roof is wood, with inscriptions Arabs.

However, the high arches of ships are aimed at Gothic style, like the vault ogival cruise. The altarpiece of the central apse is a magnificent example of the Renaissance, with Plateresque decor, designed by Francis Spina, which recounts the life of Christ and Santiago. From the richly decorated pulpit of this church Saint Vincent Ferrer in 1405 managed to inflame the feelings of the faithful to the point of taking them to occupy by force and Christianizing the synagogue today known as Santa Maria la Blanca.

In this church is preserved the image from the Ermita de la Virgen de los Desamparados. The restoration works and town planning in the second half of the twentieth century left the church free, free constructions townhouses over the centuries, making union with the Gate Hinge.
