Mosque of Tornerías
|
| |
The main hall is modeled after the mosque of Christ of the Cross. It was to plant an irregular square, slightly higher than the previous one, with three vessels and nine spaces created by four columns without Basa, but only the central dome presents cruciform structure, the other being Vaid.
There are remnants of the wall of the kiblah and the mihrab, missing in the collapse of the adjoining house.
What determines the uniqueness of this building is indeed unusual to have two floors, because of the unevenness of the terrain. So the entry from the Square Solarejo is almost at the prayer room, while the street Tornado opens to the structures of one of the Roman water tanks, Castellum ACQUA, which underpin it.
It is documented in the twelfth century, so it probably was built in the eleventh century. She gained a special importance to be the only mosque in maintaining its religious use until the fifteenth century. |
