The bridge of Alcantara (Alcantara bridge in Arabic) stands over the Tagus river in the city of Toledo (Spain). Located next to the castle of San Servando, there is evidence of its construction in Roman times, in the founding of Toletum. It was one of the bridges that gave entrance to the city and was forced entry into the middle ages for all pilgrims. It is protected by two heavily fortified gates at the ends, being one of Baroque style and another built in medieval times. This bridge has been under constant attacks in the period of the Reconquista, and returned to rebuild. It was declared a national monument in 1921
